Open, Illustration Friday

Open for Bzzzness

This is the final one of three, you can scroll down to see the other two if you're bothered.
I think this is the best of the three but if anyone prefers the others I'd love to know.
All three are watercolours.

cute title :) i agree with your choice... i think the lighter background below the flower help to keep the attention on the flower/bee. it's really a lovely piece... thanks for sharing it!

Yes, very beautiful. I agree too with your choice. The lighter background does make the flower and the bee stand out more. However, they are all lovely as a set.

Great work. I like the subtleness of the top illo. Beautiful soft use of color.

Ooh! Lovely stuff; I particularly like the contrast between the closely observed parts such as the bee, and the freedom and expression of the parts where the watercolour has been left to do its own thing.

I really like the top one (number 1 I guess) it is soft and lovely and makes the bee really stand out. However, I really like the bright flower of the second painting and the background. All are lovely.
Thanks for your comments!

Sign me up for #1. The dynamic values of the focal point(s) nicely contrast the surrounding area. The w-in-w technique over the back of the bee works especially well.

It's great to see all three of them together. The flowers and the bees are beautiful in each of the picture, but I agree with your choice as the light, delicate background in the first one is my favourite.

i like the top piece because the focus is strong and not distracted by the 'hectic' background. great work.

All three are quite lovely. As others have commented, I agree that the light background of the first piece does highlight both the flower and the bee, but I also like the wet washes of the bottom two. They do work beautifully as a set and I love the bees in all of them!

The final illo is marvellous - really dynamic and the composition seems more pleasing to my eye. All three are lovely though. Good job!

I like them all. Very wonderful watercolor.

All three are really wonderful! But I really love the first though. I think it might be the bee and also the background is letting the forground be the foreground.

Love your work!

lovely work! I like them all but I think I actually like the 2nd one best - the stronger colours make it feel a bit otherworldly, and I love the texture in the background.

I like them all, but agree with your choice! It most clearly illustrates the theme "open". Such lovely work!
